【摘要】:ThispartofEN623describesmanualmethodsofmakingmeasurementsforthedeterminationofmeanlinearinterceptgrainsizeofadvancedtechnicalceramicsusingphotomicrographsofpolishedandetchedtestpieces.Thisisnotthetruemeangraindiameter,butasomewhatsmallerparameterrepresentingtheaveragepathlengthofalinedrawnacrossatwo-dimensionalsection.Therelationshiptotruegraindimensionsdependsongrainshapeanddegreeofmicrostructuralanisotropy.Thisstandardcontainstwomethods:AandB.MethodAappliestosingle-phaseceramics,andtoceramicswithaprincipalcrystallinephaseandaglassygrainboundaryphaseoflessthanabout5%byvolumeforwhichinterceptcountingsuffices.MethodBappliestoceramicswithmorethanabout5%byvolumeofporesorsecondaryphases,orceramicswithmorethanonemajorcrystallinephasewhereindividualinterceptlengthsaremeasured,whichcanoptionallybeusedtocreateasizedistribution.Thislattermethodallowstheporesorphasestobedistinguishedandthemeanlinearinterceptsizeforeachtobecalculatedseparately.NOTEAmethodofdeterminingvolumefraction(s)ofsecondaryphase(s)isunderdevelopmentasENV623-5;thiswillprovideameansofdeterminingwhetherMethodAorMethodBshouldbeappliedinborderlinecases.Someusersofthisstandardmaywishtoapplyautomaticorsemiautomaticimageanalysistomicrographsordirectlycapturedmicrostructuralimages.Thisispermittedbythisstandardprovidedthatthetechniqueemployedsimulatesthemanualmethod(seeclause4and8.4).
