【摘要】:1.1Thispracticecoverstheuseofreferencestandardcottonsforthestandardizationofinstrumentsandtechniquesusedtotestcottonfibersinvariouslaboratories.1.2Standardizationmaybeachievedbyapplicationofacorrectionfactorbasedonthereferencestandards,orbymodificationofthetechniqueinuse.Note1Whenreferencestandardsareusedtodevelopcorrectionfactors,ortoadjustanoperator''stechnique,noinstrumentcalibrationprocessesareinvolved.Theterm"Calibration"isproperlyusedfortheapplicationorassignmentofpermanentscalesormarkstoaninstrument.Adjustmentscanbemadetospecificinstrumentsandaccessoriessuchasorifices,metallicstrips,orcellophanesheets,inordertoobtaintheprescribedvalueswithaspecificinstrument.Sinceanoperator''stechniqueortheinterpretationofamethodorprocedureisinherentlyvariable,itcannotbecalibrated,thatis,assignedapermanent,definitevalue.Theuseofreferencestandards,however,affordsameansforstandardizingtechniquesandcheckingthereliabilityofobservedresults.1.3Thispracticerecognizestwotypesofreferencestandards:(1)calibrationcottonstandards(see)and(2)workingcottonstandards(see).1.4Theinstructionsincludedinthispracticecanbeusedwithcottonfibersinanyformsuitablefortestingwiththeparticularinstrumenttobeused.1.5Theinstructionsinthepracticeareapplicabletocottonfibersbutcanalsobeappliedtospecificblendsofcottonandotherfibers,ortootherfibersthatcanbetestedwiththeinstrumentsdesignedfortestingcottonfibers.Noinformationisavailable,however,toshowthattestproceduresstandardizedwithreferencecottonsamplesareequallyreliablewithvariouscottonfiberblendsorwithotherfibers.Note2Standardizationprocedurescoveredinthispracticearerecommendedforusewiththefollowing:TestMethodsD1440,D1445,D1447,andD1448.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoconsultandestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
